A piece of Postcard Row is up for sale

I've yet to walk by Postcard Row without seeing a camera pointed at the Painted Ladies. Those six colorful Victorian houses that grace Steiner are a such huge draw for tourists. The sightseeing busses pass by daily. These glimmering jewels across from Alamo Square paint a classic image of San Francisco, and can be seen in television shows, commercials and movies including "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". I read that Brooke Adams' character in the movie lived at 720 Steiner.

Now her neighbor is up for sale. The home at 722 Steiner has a sign out front. Of course all of the brochures were removed from the two boxes beside the signs, but a quick search on the internet reveals it can be had for just under $4 million -- and there's even a website devoted to her www.722steiner.com. The elegant inside has to be seen to be believed. I noticed there were some articles posted online touting this as the famous "Full House" house from the opening credits of the 80's sitcom -- but that was 1709 Broderick.

A quick view of the opening credits reveals it's a different street. Although nbcbayarea.com reports in the ABC series, the Tanner-Katsopolis brood picnicked in front of 722 Steiner.

Also known as the Shannon-Kavanaugh House, it was being rented out for posh parties. According to shannon-kavanaugh.com, you can have a wedding reception in the double parlor of the 1892 mansion; but the space alone could cost as much as $2500.

And that's not the only place for sale in the classic neighborhood. According to LoopNet, the apartment building to the right at 700 Steiner is also on the open market - for a little more than $7 million. It's an exciting street -- probably photographed as many times as Coit Tower. What a historical beauty these colorful houses remain; and what an amazing backdrop to our extraordinary city!
